What Type of Soil is Best for Garden Beds?
A rich organic garden mix is ideal for most garden beds. This soil type includes composted materials that improve structure, drainage, and nutrient content, making it perfect for flowers, veggies, and shrubs. Look for a blend that retains moisture while draining well, and avoid overly sandy or compacted soils unless amended with organic matter.
Can I Use Topsoil for Laying New Turf?
Yes, screened topsoil is often used as the base layer for new turf. It helps level the surface and provides a stable, consistent foundation that supports root growth. For best results, choose topsoil free of rocks and debris, and consider mixing it with a turf underlay blend if you’re laying premium turf varieties that need extra nutrients.
How Much Soil Do I Need for My Project?
Soil quantities are usually measured in cubic metres. For example, a standard raised garden bed might require 0.5 to 1 cubic metre, depending on its size. If you’re filling an area for turf or garden beds, measure the length, width, and depth to calculate the volume, or contact your local supplier with the dimensions. They can help you figure it out and recommend the best soil type for your needs.
